Siempre he dado más importancia a la idea conceptual, qué comunica, a qué juega, qué significa y por qué. Este enfoque ha conseguido entrenar y consolidar mis capacidades creativas pero ha dejado de lado el acabado pulcro y fino. Hace un tiempo, un conocido, al ver aquellos pequeños detalles que no se aprecian en las fotos, hizo un comentario que me dejó entre preocupado y sonriente: Tiene un buen lejos. Este comentario, para mí, fue revelador. Si mis piezas tienen un buen lejos, significa que no tienen un buen cerca. Y el cerca no solo se limita a lo estético, sino a lo funcional. Cuando me propusieron participar en esta exposición, lo primero que pensé fue en el mal cerca que pueden tener mis piezas y, sobre todo, al ser una silla, lo frágil que puede llegar a ser si los anclajes no están bien acabados ni son bien resistentes. Pensé en la preocupación que tendría si la pieza circulara entre exposiciones y en la posible llamada del galerista diciéndome que un coleccionista se ha sentado y se ha caído todo por el suelo. De modo que me propuse hacer de esta debilidad el motivo principal de la pieza. Quise crear una pieza robusta, lo más robusta posible y, así, no estar preocupado, pensando que todo puede venirse abajo en cualquier momento. This piece stems from experiences and fears related to past exhibition works. I have always prioritized the conceptual idea: what it communicates, what it plays with, what it means, and why. While this approach has helped train and solidify my creative skills, it has left aside a clean and refined finish. Some time ago, an acquaintance, noticing those small details that don't show up in photos, made a comment that left me somewhere between worried and amused: "It looks good from a distance." For me, this comment was a revelation. If my pieces look good from afar, it means they don't look good up close. And this "up close" is not just about aesthetics, but functionality. When I was invited to participate in this exhibition, my first thought was about the poor "up close" my pieces can have. Especially since it’s a chair, I thought about how fragile it could be if the anchors aren't well-finished or sturdy enough. I imagined the anxiety I'd feel if the piece toured between exhibitions, and the dreaded call from the gallerist telling me a collector sat down and the whole thing crashed to the floor. Therefore, I decided to make this weakness the central theme of the piece. Des de les reflexions i qüestions plantejades per Joler, l’artista Octavi Serra ha creat una instal·lació a partir dels objectes i els entorns físics que participen de la nostra quotidianitat domèstica. El resultat és un assemblatge en què s’aglutinen, entrellacen i entren en conflicte les actituds, les assumpcions i les aspiracions que conformen la nostra identitat. L’exposició vol participar de manera oberta, crítica i desenfadada del debat sobre com les tecnologies i els productes digitals i materials amb la que interactuem constantment, condicionen les nostres actituds i prefiguren mons possibles. FIRST OF ALL The exhibition starts with the piece New Extractivism by designer Vladan Joler, an exploration of the impact of the digital world on human beings. From the reflections and questions posed by Joler, artist Octavi Serra has created an installation based on the objects and physical environments that are part of our everyday domestic lives. The result is an assemblage where the attitudes, assumptions, and aspirations that shape our identity are clustered, intertwined, and come into conflict. The exhibition aims to engage openly, critically, and playfully in the debate about how the technologies and digital and material products we constantly interact with shape our attitudes and prefigure
